LAMDA is extremely proud of the achievements of all its alumni, both on-stage and behind the scenes. Few cast lists are empty of LAMDA actors, and our stage managers and theatre technicians excel in a range of artistic and managerial positions.
Scarcely a year goes by without LAMDA's former students being honoured at a major film, television or theatre award ceremony. Congratulations went to David Suchet CBE, who won Best Actor at not only the Critics' Circle Theatre Awards but also the 2011 WhatsonStage Awards, for his role in All My Sons. No fewer than six other alumni received nominations at the WhatsonStage Awards: Nancy Carroll (After the Dance) in the category of Best Actress in a Play; Toby Stephens (The Real Thing), Benedict Cumberbatch (After the Dance) and Rory Kinnear (Hamlet/Measure for Measure) in the category of Best Actor in a Play; and Clare Higgins (Hamlet) and Dame Harriet Walter DBE (Women Beware Women) in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Play.
We were delighted to see Nancy Carroll scoop Best Actress at the 2011 Laurence Olivier Awards for her role in After the Dance. Congratulations also go to those alumni who received nominations at the awards: Rory Kinnear and David Suchet CBE for Best Actor, James Laurenson for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Sarah Goldberg for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
LAMDA's stage management and technical theatre alumni also continue to make their mark on the industry. Congratulations go to alumnus David Atkinson, who was named Lighting Designer of the Year at the Lighting Design Awards 2011 in March.
On the small screen, Jim Broadbent continued the winning trend of LAMDA alumni with a Best Actor Award at the 2011 Royal Television Society Awards for his performance in Channel 4's Any Human Heart. The same performance also gave Jim a Leading Actor nominee at the 2011 BAFTA Television Awards. Congratulations go to the other LAMDA alumni who received nominations: Anna Maxwell Martin (Leading Actress for South Riding), Katherine Parkinson (Female Performance in a Comedy Role for The IT Crowd) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Leading Actor for Sherlock).
Across the pond, congratulations go to the two alumni nominated for a 2011 Drama Desk Award: Tom Riley (Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play for Arcadia) and Davis McCallum (Outstanding Director of a Play for A Bright New Boise).
We were delighted to see LAMDA graduates Robert Emms, MyAnna Buring and Daniel Sharman named as three of the 2011 Screen International Stars of Tomorrow.
