What to prepare for your LAMDA first round audition or interview
Three, Two and One Year Acting Courses
Applicants should present:
- One monologue from an Elizabethan or Jacobean play.
- One monologue from a play written in 20th or 21st centuries but not a piece written by yourself or by an unknown or little-known author.
Neither piece should last longer than 3 minutes each and must be clearly contrasting.
After the audition speeches you will be taken to meet Admissions staff for a brief interview. The interview is part of the admissions process and applicants should therefore be prepared to ask and answer questions accordingly.
Applicants auditioned in North America will be asked to sing a short, simple unaccompanied song of their choice.

All Acting Course Applicants Please Note:
- You should be comfortably dressed with suitable footwear for auditions.
- This information regarding audition requirements refers to first round auditions only. If you are asked to attend a second audition or a recall, information on what to prepare will be sent to you.
Foundation Course
Applicants should present one of the following:
- Two monologues - one from an Elizabethan or Jacobean play and one from a play written in the 20th or 21st centuries but not a piece written by yourself or by an unknown or little-known author. The two pieces must be clearly contrasting and neither is to last longer than 2 minutes each.
- Discuss your involvement in a theatre production in a technical capacity - i.e. lighting, sound or stage management.
- From a director's perspective, select a play, a venue and an ideal cast and be prepared to talk about your reasons for wanting to mount such a production.
- Present a set design or some costume designs for a play of your choice.
- Present a review/critique of a professionally produced play that you have seen recently.
