Directors

This course aims to give prospective professional directors the experience of working on all aspects of theatrical production from budgeting to performance. The successful candidates will have either completed a college or university course and have been involved in student drama sufficiently to indicate serious professional intent, or have sufficient experience in aspects of professional theatre to meet the standard of this course

A maximim of four places are available.

Graduates have been employed by (amongst others) the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Almeida, the Royal National Theatre, the Bush Theatres and Shakespeare in the Park, New York.

Designers

This course aims to provide prospective professional designers the practical and theatrical experience of all aspects of theatre design from budgeting to performance (including touring). It gives the opportunity to gain experience of actor and stage management training relevant to the design process.

The successful candidates will have either completed a college or university course in a relevant subject and demonstrated serious professional intention and/or have gained professional experience in some aspect of design sufficient to the standard of the course.

A maximum of two places are available.

Musical Director and Repetiteur

The aim of the course is to give a grounding as a Musical Director or Repetiteur with knowledge of singing, voice preservation, coaching and repertoire.

The course is appropriate to music graduates or holders of an equivalent qualification from a music college.

Candidates should be proficient in practical keyboard technique and sight-reading.

Movement Instructor

The course aims to train one student who is specifically interested in teaching movement-related subjects at senior level to universities, colleges, theatre companies and secondary schools.

The student is exposed to many different movement styles and dance techniques, whilst assimilating theory and teaching communication skills. Emphasis is placed strongly on the inter-relation between movement, Alexander Technique, voice and acting.

Experience in movement theatre, dance or gymnastics is necessary. The student therefore needs to be physically fit and able to participate in movement classes.

The course is therefore participatory as well as theoretical with emphasis on learning how to teach by example and demonstration. A good eye for observation is essential.
