"Thank you so much for the amazing acting experiences we all shared. LAMDA's magnificent directing and teaching brought out a professionalism in me and inspired me towards my fullest potential in the acting process. Just as you said, I surprised myself!"

These are designed for students wishing to work on an intensive Shakespearean programme with the LAMDA faculty. The aim of the courses is to demystify Shakespeare: to prevent poetic drama seeming an unscalable mountain and to make the student as comfortable with this kind of drama as he or she is with naturalistic work.

We make Shakespeare accessible through the disciplines of textual analysis, history seminars and above all instruction in techniques to help the development of voice and body with special emphasis on their relation to the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods.

Working in groups of fifteen or less, practical class will be given in:

  • Voice (Pure and Applied)
  • Movement (Pure and Applied)
  • Singing *
  • Historic Dance
  • Stage Combat
  • Alexander Technique
  • Textual Analysis and Scene Study

The classwork will culminate in an ‘open rehearsal’ for students and tutors.

Lectures on the social and historical background of Shakespeare’s world are also provided.

Classes will take place between 10:00am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday inclusive.

The London workshop includes a visit to the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon and performances at London theatres.

Housing is available for all London workshops.
