Non-EU Students - Immigration and Visas

  • Tthe visa requirements for non-EU students coming to study in the UK have changed – see website www.ukvisas.gov.uk for the most up-to-date information and visa application procedure.
  • Institutions now need to be registered with the UK Border Agency in order to recruit non-EU students. LAMDA is a registered sponsor and has acheived an A-rating, the highest available.
  • Non-EU students on courses of less than 6 months usually apply for the Students Visitors visa.
  • Non-EU students on courses of 6 months and above usually apply for the General Student visa under Tier 4 regulations.
  • All visa rules are subject to change, so please check with website mentioned above.
  • LAMDA will provide you with a Confirmation of Acceptance which you then use to make your visa application.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct visa for entry to the UK.
  • All non-EU students can now work up to 20 hours per week during term time, and unlimited time during holidays, without having to apply for permission whilst in full-time education. You will however need to apply for a National Insurance number - click here for further information.
  • The UK Borders Agency require that you present your visa, passport and any ID card on the first day of term at LAMDA otherwise you will not be allowed to enrol. Photocopies will be taken and kept on file.
  • LAMDA is also required to hold up-to-date contact details for all non-EU students, so you must also keep Admissions notified of any changes in your address or phone number.
  • Under the new regulations, if you miss 10 consecutive classes or meetings without notifying LAMDA or without prior permission, LAMDA is obliged to report you to the UK Borders Agency. This will result in cancellation of your visa and deportation back to your country of origin.

  • If your visa stamp states that you should register with the police, this should be done within 7 days of your arrival in UK at:
